PhotobucketIt’s that time of year again when finding the right ambush spot is critical, when it comes to putting venison in the freezer.  We are hanging stands around a pond, on the edge of a 75 acre woods.  This particular spot has many old acorn producing oak trees, and there are several major runways.  We found a couple small buck rubs and many deer tracks down by the water.  Some of those tracks were huge.

Both stands are hanging in funnels from soybean fields through the woods to bedding areas.  I am excited about this new spot, and can’t wait to get back from my upcoming bear hunt, and start my quest for a wall-hanger.  I’m letting the smaller bucks walk this year, and will try and be patient before letting any arrows fly.  I have several doe permits, so venison (in the freezer) should be no problem.
